State Titles competitors enjoying the great outdoors.
How we have fun!
At Full Boar Archers we shoot a a variety of styles on a variety of ranges.
ABA is a 20 target range of distances of varying somewhere between 5.6 to 48 meters, but we don't mark the distances, you have to guess. Junior and Cubs shoot 75% and 50% of the distances set for the Adults. The way it works is you start on the first lane and shoot up to 3 arrow, record your score, then move on to the next lane for a new challenge and target. Do this for the 20 times, have a rest and cool drink at the canteen. Then go out and do it all again but so you don't get bored and we add a bit of a challenge and you only get one chance at each target this time.
A bit more of a challenge is the 3D range, only recommended for the practiced archer or some one who can afford to loose lots of arrows. Rubber animal shapes are set between 15 and 42M but there is no back drop, miss the shoot and you will need to search for you arrow somewhere in the grass and bush behind. (Yes we do have BIG safety zones for these ranges.)
Next we have 28 target IFAA ranges out to 80yds (~75M) but we tell you how far they are this time, Targets in IFAA also vary in size and shape. For some competitions we have animal shapes with 2 score zones and other competitions the round bullseye type targets. Again shoot a few arrow on you lane, score then move on to the next lane for a new target.
If you want to practice or just want to relax, we also have a 100M range where you choose the target and the distance. Shoot as many or as few arrows as you want. Bring a friend and hire some equipment for a relax afternoon of something different.
Our story up to now!
Full Boar Archers started up in the backyard of a group of Townsville locals. Back in 2013 we decided to start our own archery club and was Incorporated in 2014. So began the long process of finding land. and setting up our ranges.
Mid 2015 we kicked off on a small patch of ground on a 10 target range at Bluewater. Still being a new club means only bigger and better things were to come! We moved to new grounds out at the base of Herveys Range where the club grew from a 10 target range to 2 full 20 target ABA ranges, a dedicated 20 target 3D range and a 14 target hunter round IFAA range.
All this work culminated with the Club hosting the Queensland ABA State titles in October 2022. We also continue to grow and develop our involvement with the Community, holding events with Schools and Not-for-Profit groups as well as corporate team building events.
Ongoing from here the club has continued to engage with the community through event bookings with Schools, Social groups and businesses. The big project is the estalishment of a inter-school archery competition to give the youth an alternate to mainstream heavy physical sports such as football and Cricket.
Field archery is one of the most enjoyable forms of archery. The health aspects of walking around in a bush environment with like minded people that enjoy the sport of Archery is a wonderful experience.
We are always looking for new club members so if your interested in being apart of our club in anyway don't hesitate to contact us or come along to our next shoot!
All Committee members and club position holders also hold bluecards for working with children.
